A fabulous project is almost complete featuring Pete Watkins, Mike Morales and Colin Baker who originally performed as The Steps. It’s an album of 9 Pete Watkins songs. The band recently completed a studio/live album where the band played live in the studio, natural and exciting it captures the raw live sound of the band. Expert engineering and production from Jake Jacob. The album features the songs Blind Ambition, Corners, Times Old And New, Faded Pictures, Feeling Fine, I Need You, Who’s World is it Anyway, I Will Be King and Reaction. Most of these songs date back to the Reactions days and were set standards for the Reactions and the Steps and later for Number 9 Blast (another incarnation). Colin’s bass playing is absolutely magnificent, displaying his creativity and his honey smooth style on Times old and New and his exciting driving licks on I Need You and Corners. Mike Morales on drums is still sounding as powerful and unique as ever, pounding through the tracks, Jake ‘s production captures the live excitement for which Mike is re-known. The guitar sound and vocals complete the scene. Will let you know when this album becomes available.
Hoping we’ll see and hear some of The Pete Watkins Originals this year, the band members are all busy on other projects at the moment.
It’s always great to see so many followers at the gigs and having a good time, thank you all for your support. Hope to see you again soon. Check out the Giglist.

The 2014 album IRON STONE & STEEL released December 20th 2014
The second pressings are sold out! The third pressings are now in stock! Thank you to all who have purchased the album, it’s getting great reviews from the most important people, YOU! I’m so thrilled to receive the feedback and kind words, Easier to Breathe seems to be the stand-out song. It tells of a coal-miner looking back over his life, reflecting on easier times but in a positive way – he had a meaningful job, a place in community and a secure home to raise his family! ‘It’s work that gives a man his pride’.
For now I’m sticking with my plan to only make the CD available for direct purchase on-line or at gigs. It’s an album and works well when listened to in it’s entirity.
Rough and Ready – Acoustic and Unplugged –
Volume II of the R&R is NOW available at gigs! It includes specially arranged acoustic live versions cover songs including Copperhead Road, Gasolene Alley, Tower of Song, Lola, Giving It All Away and lots more from Pete’s solo sets.
A live recording was recently made at The Castle in Edgehill, home of the famous civil war battle, haven’t heard the results yet but if it’s ok. There was a lot of background noise from an especially rowdy crowd that night! Who knows that might be an improvement.
The Rough and Ready series feature a selection of covers played specially arranged for solo acoustic guitar in Pete’s original style. Volume 1 sold out in a few months but rather than getting more pressed the focus went on the next project. So, who knows you may just own a collectors item! For those who didn’t buy a copy.. . ‘Rough and Ready – Acoustic and Unplugged’ features a collection of cover songs from the live set. Volume 1 also includes two originals ‘Corners’ and ‘Who’s World Is It Anyway?’
Listen to a taster track from the first Rough & Ready covers compilation a taster track for the newest release will soon be available.
